Best-selling artists in Korean history (until September 22nd, 2022)

These are the 100 best-selling artists in Korean history.

When we talk about the best-selling artists in Korean history, we include Korean and Japanese sales. Please note that many of these artists are approximate sales.

Sources for Korean sales are from Korean Music Statistical Yearbook for pre-1998 sales, RIAK for sales between 1998 and 2008, Hanteo for some 2008 sales and 2009 sales, and Circle Chart for sales from 2010 until August 2022. The source for Japanese sales is from Oricon. Korean sales only include Korean albums and Japanese sales for Japanese albums.

Neither of these sales include sales of DVD/Blu-ray sales.

  1. Both 2NE1 and SNSD are two of the best-selling girl groups in the world.

All the noise that BLACKPINK's name brings is embarrasing when you look at their sales. I thought their income level was similar to BAGTAN due to their huge popularity.

AESPA and ITZY have been in the industry for less than four years and could outsell BLACKPINK with an upcoming release (if it wasn't for BORN PINK, GIRLS was the best-selling album by a girl group).

Although 70% of the names on the list have fans who inflate their stream numbers, they at least have sizable sales (considering mass purchases as well).

    1. Was it BLACKPINK's fault that their company is sabotaging them by releasing 2 mini albums and 2 full albums after 6 years?

It's embarrassing that you're comparing them based on cumulative sales. If BLACKPINK were to release as many albums as TWICE did, probably they are already in top 10 too.

Other groups manage to sell millions of albums yet the digitals and streams doesn't matchrd. The only group to be able to that is BTS.

    2. Learn to accept reality and stop drifting off topic with personal feelings. With 80 million subscribers, they should be unstoppable, regardless of their small discography. Clearly their fanbase numbers are inflated.

How come groups that debuted two years ago (with a medium fanbase) have a similar sales percentage as BLACKPINK?

We care about sales, idols don't eat from views.

    3. For anon (september 7, 2022 at 9:06).

I agree. Bagtan's music has never been to my liking. However, I know how to accept the reality: they have managed to build a dedicated fan base. And their commercial achievements prove it (even if mass purchases are included). But I don't understand what's going on with Black Pink. Because of their huge following and marketing, I thought they sold between three/four million copies per album/extend play... But their sales are between 600K and 2MILL (not impressive considering that there are groups that debuted a couple of years ago that have similar sales). But the dedication of their fans is also admirable when it comes to reproductions on digital platforms.

If we talk about talent, neither Black Pink nor Bagtan would get honorable mentions.
